About Barbados
Fondly referred to as the gem of the Caribbean, Barbados is the most easterly island in the island chain.
Barbados is situated at latitude 13 degrees, 10 N of the equator and longitude 59 degrees, 32 west of Greenwich. This coral island is 14 miles wide and 21 miles long. The Atlantic Ocean hugs the eastern side of the island, while the Caribbean Sea lies on the western side. This contrast provides the east coast with a dramatic coastline and rough seas, while the west coast offers white sandy beaches and calm seas.
